The Manning family are the oldest and richest family in Westborough. They are one of the few families to have come through the war with much of their wealth still in tact. They have used this position of power to secure a place at the head of the council, a position which for all intents and purposes is hereditary.
Presently the head of the family and village elder is Cornelia Manning. An unusual situation as the female relative of the Mannings rarely ascends to the role of elder, the position going to the senior male of the family in most instances. However, in this case, Cornelian had no brothers, and so she became the village elder.
